hammer_perpetuem

Nurtition is the key 4th discipline in triathloning. If you fail to nail your nutrition you will suffer greatly in performance as well as your body from being able to bounce back. Hammer Perpetuem has the right combination of complex carbs, protein, and lipds to power you through the next half or full iron distance. The best part of this product is that you can mix it to your needed consistency while still being easily to digest. It does not contain simple sugar that often triggers stomach related issues and the best part is that it contains protein that will leave you less fatigued for your next training ride/run.

profile_design_carbon_stryke

To road or to tri? That is the question that many beginner triathletes ask themselves. My answer to that is of course it depends. Those who already have road bikes and looking to just get into the sport it’s often times best to use some “clip-on” aero bars such as these Profile Design Carbon Stryke without breaking the bank. These aero bars are solid, sexy, and easy to setup. Some of your buddies will think that your bike is a tri bike when you roll up at the next meetup. These are full carbon aero bars with the ability to route internal cables. Cheat the wind by tucking into a more aero position.

mavic_cxr80

I think the designers and engineers over at Mavic has become mad scientist with their latest creation the Mavic Cosmic CXR 80. The claim is that these wheels have the lowest drag of any wheel that is out there in the market. These guys not only took into account the shape of the rim but as well as the tires and how it sits on the wheel. How exactly did they do this? Well the gap between the tire and brake track are fitted with a plastic blade into a channel on the rim to make it more aero. Price is heard to be around $2,800 and available sometime in August.

newton_mens_gravity_neutral

Newtons have defienetly come onto the triathlon scene especially with athletes like Craig Alexander and Michellie Jones being sponsored by them. No wonder with every triathlon we go to more and more athletes are showing up with these great looking kicks. This particular model the Newtons Mens Gravity Neutral Trainer is a great everyday trainer that is light (9.1 ounces) and much sturdier and longer lasting than the Newton Distance. The heal has a more solid rubber to keep the shoe from wearing down quickly. The Action/Reation Technology is also in these shoes to promote a better midfoot to forefoot running. It is a great looking shoe and performs very well. Just a word of advice is make sure you ease into these shoes and build up the miles. I’ve heard of many runners taking these out the box and putting in 15 miles to come to find out there calf and achilles become sore.

pearl_izumi_tri_fly_octane

Pearl Izumi is not new to the triathlon scene and they know what a triathlete is looking for. The Pearl Izumi Tri Octane are light, stiff, and anatomically correct. Did I also mention looks great as well? The Tri Octane has a one piece Clarino Rovenica Upper with Direct Vent Technology that offers minimum weight and maximum breathability. Cooling and draining is no problem with these shoes. You will be paying top dollar for these shoes but the comfort, look, and “make sense” approach that Pearl Izumi took to design this shoes should command the higher price.

dz_bliss_womens_chamois_cream

Earlier this week we featured DZ Nuts High Viscocity Chamois Cream designed for mens. The same maker also has one designed for women as well. When it comes to chaffing it’s not fun and it’s not a battle wound that you want to show off. Ladies protect youselves with DZ Nuts bliss! When applied there is a tingly sensation that goes away pretty quickly but the relief it provides on those long rides are amazing.

honey_stinger_organic_energy_chew

Low blood suger, hitting the wall, bonking, upset stomach, and all of the above are probably one of the worst feelings an endurance athlete can have. Honey Stinger Orgainic Energy Chew is an easy digestable 1:1 glucose to fructose ratio that is similar to the fruit we eat. The ingrediants that are used in these chews consist of cane sugar, honey, along with tapioca syrup as the carb source. The Honey Stinger chews are very easy to chew and you don’t need water. They don’t stick to your teeth either. Plus they taste great.

innovations_air_chuck_elite_co2_inflator

Just like falling on a bike we all know that it’s going to happen but it’s a question of when will it happen. The same goes for having a flat tire while riding your bike. Often times it happens at the most inconvenient time like during a race, on a hot training day, or when you are in a good set. Innovations Air Chuck Elite CO2 Inflator will come to the rescue the next time you get a flat. It’s easy to operate, great-looking, light and, compared to the inflators that completely enclose the cartridge, extremely small. Place the cover on the cartridge, firmly screw on the inflator, place the inflator on the valve and press! No switches to operate, no twist-to-inflate. Just press to inflate.

token_chain_drop_catcher

So what is a chain catcher? Simply put you need to get a Token Chain Drop Catcher! I’m rather surprised that most bikes don’t come standard with one of these. A chain catcher will prevent the chain from dropping off the small ring and onto the frame. If the chain is about to slide off the small ring, it hits the chain catcher, which pushes the chain back onto the ring. This saves time, keeps your hands clean, lessens frame damage especially if you have a carbon frame, and could very well salvage your chances of winning a race! Very simple to attach to the front derailleur and next to the small chainring. It’s cheap to get and easy to install so their should be no excuse. Buy it!
